Following the huge success of The Marriage of Figaro in 2024, Opera Project return to Tobacco Factory Theatres this autumn with another sparkling Mozart comedy — Così fan tutte.
A playful tale of love, loyalty and disguise, Così sees two young officers put their sweethearts’ faithfulness to the test… with unexpected results. Egged on by the cynical Don Alfonso and the spirited maid Despina, the pair assume new identities and attempt to seduce each other’s fiancées — setting in motion a riot of mistaken identities, romantic confusion and emotional chaos.
Packed with glorious music and razor-sharp wit, Così fan tutte is a bittersweet comedy of love’s contradictions and the games we play in its name. For more info and thoughts on the opera by Jonathan Lyness, please go to Tobacco Factory Theatres
Sung in Richard Studer’s amazing English translation by a superb cast and accompanied by the brilliant ten-piece Opera Project Orchestra, directed from the harpsichord by Jonathan Lyness.
‘They make it work, they deliver with punchy, impactful theatre, and they cast with strength’
